After a long period of working at home, most employees have gotten a clear view on theirs needs and preferences regarding work. Where one is going nuts from working on the kitchen table with all distractions from living companions, others perceive their comfortably set-up home office as an oasis of peace for optimal concentration. Some have lost their work-private balance whilst others thrive by the freedom to flexibly manage their time. And there is a group pledging by a combination of working at home and the office. Whatever our experiences may be. The society and therefore the office will open up again. Will all employees (and do they want to) come back to the office? And what do they expect from their workplace? Questions making employers think about the arrangement of the post-corona work environment.
After the many and long period of time working at home, it’s a challenge for employers to create a work environment where employees feel at home and at ease. A place where they can make themselves comfortable, just like at home. So, by the masses to the office in our cozies and slippers? Not at all! But having the opportunity to choose how and where, depending on the moment, we want to work. This requires flexible rules, adapted to different personal preferences and needs, in between which it is easy to switch. Regarding look we go towards rooms breathing a living room feeling and comfortable atmosphere. With warm housy colours, a mix of materials having a visible and sensible structure and the application of personal prints.
For many the home office has proven to be a productive and relaxed place to work on focus tasks. The other way round there are also employees experience their homework place to be chaotic and disturbing, due to their work and private merging too much. Whatever your experience with working at home is, there is one thing the home work place cannot offer: contact and interaction with colleagues. The new work environment therefor is shifting from workplace to a place to meet each other and a shared lunch space to informal meeting spots and a bar area, meet-ups are facilitated in multiple aspects.
After the plentiful sitting and working from home, we’ve gotten tired of having the same environment every time. The need for variety therefor is bigger than ever. Especially creative profession have the need for regular stimuli to boost the inspiration. The demand for a work environment offering a unique experience and escape to a world full of inspiration is increasing. In this field employers have the opportunity to distinguish themselves and bind employees to them. By adding perception and emotion to the interior, you create an environment where employees enjoy going to and where they feel connected to the organisation. Something which has a positive effect on the motivation, productivity and satisfaction of your employees.
COVID-19 has changed where, when and how we want to work, depending on our needs at that specific time. An office offering the best of two worlds will have the best chance to succeed.
