Designing will be done with VR-glasses on
Walking around in a building or room you have designed yourself way before the first pile goes into the ground. Everything you need is Virtual Reality glasses and a good design, made with for example the software SketchUp Pro. Orlando Sardaro from Design8, the Dutch importer of SketchUp Pro, tells: "We will all be designing with these kind of glasses on in the future, there is no other way."
SketchUp Pro is a software package letting you make 3D designs in an instant. From an interior, a complete building to an entire street. It is used by architects, but also the store planners of IKEA and De Bijenkorf. And even by the army to design camps. "You name it and there is a 3D model available", says Orlando. "All uploaded by the users of SketchUp Pro. From store displays to tanks, LEOXX is also a fervent uploader. There is an enormous collection LEOXX floors available to design with.”
Walking around in your design
The technique needed for virtual reality has developed itself lightning fast. "I remember putting on VR-glasses for the first time a few years also", Orlando says. "That was impressive already, but nothing compared to how it looks now. In my opinion it's the ultimate design and presentation tool for architects. With such glasses you can see just that little bit extra, letting you make better design choices. This also account for your clients, who can get a much better image of the room."
It doesn't just stay with virtually walking around. Orlando points out: "If you have multiple glasses you can look at the design together with your clients. Address things, 'like' things and take decisions together. And change the design on the spot. Comparing LEOXX' floors with each other for example. You can do it instantly. Designing starts to look more and more like gaming this way. It's a matter of time before we put on the glasses during the entire designing process."
Workshops
In May, Orlando and his colleagues give three workshops SketchUp Pro at LEOXX. These three dates are as we speak completely booked unfortunately. Those who have been able to acquire a spot can expect a hands-on workshop. "We just get to it. If you don't have experience, we show you how the program works. If you do have experience, we can help you with the details. Take a look if you are doing well."
